Doom Hail

So there goes my every Wednesday Plan i really need to be more organised with these Blogs but any way on to the models. as i said last week this week is dealing with two thirds of the shooty goodness of the Dark Elf's starting with my unit of 14 crossbow men.

I have two units of 14 which almost always guarantees me 28 shots of armour piecing whick is awesome. Also i never equip them with shields, the only reason that I done this is because I have seen it done before and it looks awesome.

This on one effect that I really like in this army and its the woodgrane, I forgot to say in the last post that all the spear men spears have been painted with woodgrane. I know there are a lot of ways to do this but the easiest on I found that is quite effective is just a coat of scorched brown and then with quite watered down snakebite leather streak it in the direction that you want the woodgrane going and there you go.

Ahh the blot thrower a model that I am now so happy is out in fine cast as this was a right paint to put together but was also very easy to paint just wood, metal and some feathers.

The base for the bolt thrower is made of of the "make your own movement tray" with a cork tile on top with the slots for the crew cut out, simple but effected I think.

Just a better view of the bolt thrower.

The crew are very nice models themselves some of the best in the dark elf range in my opinion, I tried to paint these guys up as characters but after looking at these guy since posting them up I realise that I have improved on charter painting since doing these guy.

And last but not least my Favourite part of the paint job the cloaks. I tried to blend these and then add a edge highlight just the draw the eye in and I don't think it went to badly.

That's it for now, I only have one more unit of crossbow men to paint which im am half way through at the moment and an assassin to go then I have done a 1000 points so I am getting quite excited about that :).

As a quick couple of side notes I entered this 1000 point army in a small round robin stile tournament at my local Games Workshop and made it to the finals where I lost to a chaos army, but I am very pleased with how the army played considering i didn't lose a game till the final. And today me and a bunch of friends are getting together and doing a paint feast so a whole day of painting gaming and generally geeking out so I will try to get photos of it.

That's all for now till next time

Dark elfs

My god an update!! now I could start making excuses about why its been so long since my last update but it all comes down to one thing, im lazy but with in tent to fix that.

My Golden Daemon project is sort of on the back burner at the moment as it was killing all my motivation to paint, so to fix that I switched my attention to my Dark elf's who were in dire need of painting. A couple of nights ago I finest these guys.

Yep a 40 man unit of warriors with spears. Now I started paining these guys about a couple of months ago average about 5 men every two weeks, I think it is fair to say im a slow painter and hate painting a lot of the same thing but I slogged on with it. At the start of the week i saw i only had 10 guys left to paint and with the light at the end of the tunnel showing I bit the bullet and batched the last 10.

This photo really shows how great the new hordes rule looks, in fact its one of my favourite things about the new rules for WFB (and one of the only things i know about the new rules), but in the end it was well worth it and I cant wait to play with them.

My favourite thing about this unit apart from the size is the free hand on the banner, its a tough skill and I always like to push my self even if it doesn't turn out so well. As far as I can remember one of the runes stands for vengeance and the other for murder but I will have to find the site again were I got them from.

Well that's it for now, my plans are to try and upload something every Wednesday now and make it a weekly thing so next week I will be putting up my cross bows and bolt thrower.

And last but no least I would like to thank Pirate Viking Painting for the advice he gave me on blogging and how to keep motivated, thanks man it worked :).

Till next time

Golden Deamon Part 1

Yeah im going for it big time this year and doing a proper Golden Deamon piece. After much discussion with my local GW manager I decided on a Grey Knight Dread Knight, manly because i really like the model unlike many other people and the thought that the manager gave me of doing it in NMM just made my mouth water. So going by the basic's of Base and Face to impress the judges I started on the base.

Now i am rather annoyed as i wanted to blog it from the start of the build to the end, but i lost the cable that lets me put pictures from my phone on the computer :(. Ahh well above is it partly painted it's getting there but has a long way to go.

As you can see I used a lot of the Warhammer 40K basing kit and from what i was told i was one of the last people to buy it as its going out of production, shame I really like it.

I built up the pile of rocks to give it the "big rock" effect this took several layers of slate and loads of dry time ( 5 hours to finish building the base).

From the picture above my favourite affect so far is the green goo coming out of the pipes and around all the drains, the slate still needs some work to make it look like different bits of flooring but it will be so worth it in the end.

And last the Dread Knight's beefy feet just to give an idea of were he will be.

Well that's it for now next update on the base should be on Saturday when i do a bit more work on it in my local store, and maybe some more of the Dread Knight will be built then.

Till next time
